Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of mobile slew conveyor operations including:

applying diagnostic techniques

applying hand-eye coordination

recognising site hand signals

works with others to undertake and complete the mobile slew conveyor operations in a way that meets all of the required outcomes including:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions, and convey work progress

demonstrates completion of conducting mobile slew conveyor operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

conducting pre-start checks, start-up, park, shutdown, and secure equipment procedures

operating and relocating the mobile slew conveyor

inspecting and testing safety device and fire service systems

inspecting and testing structures and components for three (3) of the following:

belts

sensors and indicators

idlers and pulleys

gearboxes

motors

couplings

hydraulics

frames

completing the work plan

maintaining written and verbal maintenance records

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge when conducting mobile slew conveyor operations through:

identifying, accessing, interpreting and applying technical information including:

risk assessment and hazard management for situations

following access and permit procedures

boarding and disembarking procedures

working behind protective barriers

procedures for clearing blocked chutes and excessive spills

procedures covering moving parts and working on hot machinery

assessing ground conditions, and interpreting mine site geological and survey data

identifying site conveyor and bucket wheel system components, belt sizes, loading capacities and optimum digging rates

being prepared for events for fire/accident/emergency
